The Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus) measures up to 40 feet in length with the biggest weighing in at over 75,000 lbs. The Whale Shark, despite it’s name and size, is not a Whale at all. The Whale Shark, although a true shark is no maneater. In fact, they are gentle creatures who consume algae, plankton and tiny fish. It is these primary food sources that lead the Whale Sharks to the waters of Cancun as they follow their tiny prey’s migration.
