Taking a Whale Shark tour in Cancun allows you to be at one with nature in perfect Caribbean surroundings as you swim and snorkel alongside these underwater giants. In the Yucatan Peninsula area of Mexico, from mid May to mid September, Whale Sharks gather off the coasts of Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy and Isla Holbox and provide a fantastic day trip diversion for those enjoying vacations in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

Cancun Whale Shark Tour Itinerary

Schedule: Tours run daily from May 15 to September 15.

Duration of the tour: from 7:00 in the morning to approx 2:00 in the afternoon.

07:00 AM pick up from your Cancun hotel.

07:30 AM arrive at Puerto Juarez Marina for information and briefing.

08:00 AM Leave Puerto Juarez marina and head towards the Whale Shark Reserve. Once the Whale Sharks are found you will have the opportunity to swim and snorkel alongside the biggest fish in the world. The encounters are 2 people at a time and you should expect to have 3 or 4 10 minute sessions with different Whale Sharks throughout the day.

12:00 PM Leave the Whale Shark reserve and head off to the nearby Isla Che Reef coral reef where you can enjoy more fantastic snorkeling with equipment provided

12:30 PM The crew prepares a delicious shrimp ceviche together with chicken sandwiches and cheese.

02:00 PM Arrival back in Cancun and return to your hotel.

The tour includes round trip transportation aboard comfortable vehicles to transport you between your hotel and the dock, all your snorkeling equipment, a guide (biologist or naturalist), light lunch soft drinks bottled water. The tour does not include alcoholic drinks, souvenirs, tips or any other extra cost service at the dock. The minimum age is 5 years old. 5% of the total price paid is donated to ecological projects to help protect and preserve the nature of the Yucatan Peninsula.

  • The tour has a capacity limited to just 10 persons per boat, it is strongly advised to reserve in advance to avoid disappointment
  • We suggest you take with you towels, comfortable clothes and shoes, swimming suit. Also remember that the sun is strong so use appropriate sunscreen protection and bring a hat. Please ensure that the sunscreen you use is biodegradable and eco friendly.
  • Bring extra money for souvenirs, photo & video, etc.
  • The tour is not suitable for pregnant women or those who have any physical or mental limitation.
